Did you know that postpartum depression affects 1 in 7 women? Or that postpartum anxiety and depression are the number one complication of childbirth?

As a mother of a small child I can empathize with other new parents in their struggle with postpartum mood disorders. The transition to motherhood is overwhelming at best and for some takes the joy out of bonding with their newborn. Although these times can be difficult, you are not alone and I am here to help you through this transition.

Postpartum mood disorders are quite common in many new mothers and can pose a risk for both mother and baby if not treated at the earliest signs. Symptoms can show anywhere between the first few days after childbirth up through a year postpartum, and are no fault of the mother. These symptoms can range from "baby blues" to anxiety and depression, and sometimes even psychosis.

Postpartum counseling can also help new mother's and their partners adjust to the life changes that come with the addition of one, two, or more little bundles of joys in the family unit. Relationship and family stress is common after the birth of a child as the new family is learning how to incorporate this major family change into their already busy life.

I have been professionally trained to treat perinatal mood disorders by Postpartum Support International and 2020 Mom. My approach to counseling is empathetic and collaborative. I work closely with my clients and their support network to meet you where you are and understand your particular therapy needs. Together we will draw from your strengths and empower you to make this transition with peace and confidence.

If you or someone you know is experiencing postpartum mood symptoms or stress related to postpartum adjustment, counseling may be able to help bring life back into balance. Early prevention and treatment can typically prevent potentially serious consequences of postpartum mood disorders. If you are not sure if these symptoms apply to you feel free to call the office for a free 15-minute postpartum consult or to send a message with questions you may have.

Warm wishes to you on your journey ~
